When I woke up this morning I felt, WEALTHY!
Hey family! If you’re here it’s because you just recently watched one of my videos on youtube under the #WealthyWednesday series OR, you’re like me and went through a rabbit hole of some sort and found your way here. Either way, I am SO happy you’re here. Even more so, I am SO proud of you for beginning the work at taking care of your finances and becoming more financially aware. It’s a journey and we all need support and resources. (Add me to your community, I would love to help in some way.)
Today, I’ve decided to put together a list of things you can do right now to grow your income. If you’re joining me on the Dave Ramsey’s baby step challenge, you are probably looking for ways to aggressively reach $1,000 in a month. Either way, let’s get this bag.
Get a part time job - I realize in 2020 being an entrepreneur is the thing. No shade here. however, I want to so kindly give you some humble pie and tell you, baby, part time jobs have never hurt anyone. It’s okay to have a consistent baby (or large) check coming in to help shave off the debt and possibly even invest into your other larger and more fancy career goals. If you are going to take this route this also means freshening up your resume and cover letter. Whenever I am thinking of a part time job, I like to think about jobs that won’t physically tire me out. I mention this because, I use to take whatever part time job was available until I realized, ya girl would be exhausted at her main job because she spent hours on her feet and things of the sort. Look for jobs like, hotel, concierge, security guard at places like the library, librarian, customer service, call centers and things of the sort. The goal of the part time job is that WHEN YOU LEAVE, you LEAVE. None of that work comes home.
Tutoring - I know some of you are thinking, “I’m not a teacher!” Breathe, not everything that needs to be taught demands you to be a teacher. If you’re great in a content area, so be it. Teach it. However, think funky! Tutor people in drawing, writing, singing, cooking, dressing, reading, etc! You’d be surprised the things people will pay for because THEY value it. Depending on what you pick, it could be a slow build, however, with consistency it could really bring in a great stream of income. Charge what you believe you are worth and then, with time and experience, push the prices up. Don’t be afraid to do that!
Baby Sitting- Plain and simple, think of the age you don’t mind watching and promote it! (www.care.com) can connect you to a ton of parents who need help for a couple hours all the way through the entire day! If you want it to be a random stream of income, you can also baby sit for date night and things of the sort! Don’t watch babies if you’re not a fan of that age group, teens are fun too and vice versa. None the less, parents want and need the help! Get the bag.
Offer YOUR skills- Similar to tutoring, you have sites like (www.fiverrr.com) where people will hire you to edit their videos, read their transcripts of their books, create a logo etc. If you’re good at any of these things, promote yourself! Even if it’s just 5.00. It starts as one 5.00 bill and before you know it, you have 20 clients and that’s 100.00’s. Don’t sleep on the slow but steady money!
Sell Your Unused Items - If you have a Plato’s closet, they are always purchasing clothing items from people and they will give you cash in exchange! If you don’t have a Plato’s closet, take advantage of Facebook market place! Post items on there! if you truly don’t care or use the items that you’re posting, sale them for 2.00’s and up. Not only does this clear up space in your closet, it puts money in your pockets! If they are items you LOVE, then absolutely charge more. However, I know we all have items in our closet that we DON’T touch. Give them away!!
Do hair/Do Nails/Offer Massages/Bake/Cook- Again, don’t sleep on the slow and steady money! If you have a service/skill that you can offer—- offer it! You can literally charge the same price or less than the nail salons and you will have customers! If you can do hair, promote it! In addition, who doesn’t love a good baked/cooked item! While building your client list, charge low (not so low that you spend more than you make) and as your clients build, raise the price. I promise, it works!
The next few are often talked about BUT I’ve noticed a lot of people having a ton of judgement around them, so I won’t go into detail as MANY of us know them, however I will offer one piece of advice. PUT YOUR PRIDE ASIDE while trying to build wealth. If you pay a ton of attention to what others say and think you’ll always be broke or struggling with money! You are doing things that work with your life and schedule. Tell people to mind their business, literally.
7. Uber/Lyft - Put that pride down
8. InstaCart- Put that pride down
9. Walk Dogs- There are apps on phones. Just search “Dog walker” Put the pride down
